Small theatres in a project by Luca Scacchetti and Stefano Calchi Novati

A series of small theatres and micro stage-settings illustrate possible solutions for hotel interiors. Fragments of rooms, individual settings that suggest large spaces and stimulate the imagination.

Tiny spaces and fragments yet examples and almost emblems of that extraordinary capacity of the Veronese territory to accumulate different production capacities. Different sectors - from wood to padded materials, light, marble, stone, glass, ceramics and decoration with different characteristics and specialities: from inlays to marquetry, gilt-work, lacquers, sand finishes, ground finishes, engravings and so forth; where creativity is expressed as if a kind of territorial summary of the Italian capacity to work on quality, creating a vital relationship between craftsmanship and industry, tradition and innovation, preservation of ancient techniques and avant-garde technology.

Every small theatre, every fragment embodies a different type of space: the bathroom, the bedroom, the hall, the waiting room, the breakfast room, the reading room, the wardrobe cabinet, the shower box, the fitness centre, the corridor, the restaurant, the terrace and so forth resolving everything with a different style and always different materials, with styles and materials that precisely seek to focus on the richness of territorial productivity, a ductility and flexibility ready to adapt to every request and evolution of the market.

The outcome is a kaleidoscope of typological, formal and material solutions, a full-scale catalogue, that in some way becomes - however - also a kind of atlas, a map, of companies operating in the territory and their capacity to respond in synergy to the different requirements that an increasingly difficult and qualified market demands.

And so, small theatre after small theatre, it is like strolling around a portrait gallery where every installation demonstrates its character and capacity and where every company involved in this “mise en scene” displays its specific profile and main skills.
In a world where the sum of formal, linguistic and cultural differences seems to be the contemporary replacement of old ideologies and so-called dominant themes, this accumulation of fragmented quality, this sum of diversified experiences, ensures extraordinary modernity over and, above every superficial stylistic contamination, emerges as a model of a relationship between project and territory and the search for identity even in times of globalisation.

All this thanks to the support of Verona Chamber of Commerce and the collaboration of: Associazione Piccole e Medie Imprese di Verona, Confederazione Nazionale dell’Artigianato di Verona, Confartigianato, Confindustria di Verona, Casartigiani, Distretto del Mobile Classico Pianura Veneta and Video Marmoteca - the true actors in this “theatre piece”..
